I have suffered with dermatographism as long as I can remember and my doctor always told me that it was due to receptor cells being too close to the surface of my skin. In my late twenties I decided to go see a dermatologist and she told me that it could be related to a vitamin B12 deficiency. She sent me for some bloodwork and sure enough it was low enough for her to call me at work to give me the results. I was unfortunately experiencing other side effects of the deficiency i.e. balance, memory, emotions, and proprioception problems especially where the various parts of the body are located in relation to each other. Since taking supplements all but my memory have corrected and I have been told that with time it will improve. I feel everyone with dermatographism should be checked for this deficiency because it effects every part of your life. I feel like a new woman.
