I have noticed that my skin swells and becomes whitish after I simply apply pressure, rub against something, or if something scratches my skin. The most common areas affected are my back, stomach, face, chest, and buttocks. The areas are very itchy and uncomfortable. Do I have dermographism? What can I do to settle the problem down? It is such a bother.
Dermographism leads to raised red skin appearing where pressure was applied to the skin. If you can draw or write something on your skin with a blunt object and that drawing appears as red raised skin, then you likely have dermographism.
From your description, it sounds like dermographism, although you mention whitish skin. Usually, it is red, and so I am not 100% sure about the diagnosis. If you feel it might be something else, a visit with the doctor should confirm whether you have this skin problem or not. Sometimes physicians have not heard about this problem or have no experience with it and so if you do see a doctor, mention that you suspect it is dermographism.

What is the best treatment for this condition? And what is the best recommended skin lotion for this condition? I have this severely.
There are several treatment options to help alleviate the symptoms of dermographism. Most have to do with taking antihistamines. The proper antihistmanine(s) and dosage for you is determined by carefully monitoring of how your body is reacting to the medication. This is done under the supervision of a physician.

Can calamine lotion be used as a dermatographism remedy? Is cornstarch helpful?
If these substances help relieve the symptoms, then they can be used.

I have been living with dermatographic urticaria for over three years. My only relief has been taking Xyzal on a daily basis, sometimes up to 15mg per day. In the U.S. Xyzal costs a fortune and online a 90-day prescription is still $90 U.S. I would love a diagnosis, not just a treatment bandaid. After multiple visits to dermatologists and allergists, maybe I should visit a rheumatologist. Your thoughts?
I think you should find the best method to treat your symptoms. There is no treatment that works the same for all. Unfortunately, there is no cure and a "treatment bandaid" is really all we have right now until this skin condition is better understood. Reading through the various stories on this website you will find some dermatographism remedies that have worked for some people but by no means are these universal cures.

Hello fellow dermatographism sufferers.
What is this disease? I have started experiencing this in the last couple of months. I am a healthcare worker and wonder if it is something in my environment that is causing this. I have taken care of patients that have necrotizing facitis and I worry that something is going on with my immune system. I get this itching that comes and goes and it could be on my extremities, trunk, buttocks, and sometimes I even get this warm itching sensation in my anal area. From what I see in the hospital, I get very worried about scratching because I don't want to pass bacteria through my skin. Can antibiotics cure this or will I suffer with this for the rest of my life? I am also straight and married, no extramarital partners.
In brief, there is no cure. You may have it for the rest of your life, it may periodically subside, or it may disappear altogether. Sorry, no firm answer to that question. The usual course of treatment involves the use of different antihistamine dosages and types. Although antibiotics may cure some underlying infection that may have started the dermographism problem, they are not generally considered a treatment for this skin problem.

I have had this condition for almost two years and the hives get so bad. I have been taking Zyrtec everyday also Benadryl when its very bad. I can't brush my hair with a comb, or put makeup on. Any touch or rub against my skin and I break out. Even when I shower! The doctor says that I can't do anything!
Very Frustrated.
